Get to know Mochara’s latest brand ambassador, Nicole Brown
Please tell us a bit about who you are and what you do?
I’m a presenter and commentator that specialises in equestrian sports. Basically, I just love to talk about horses!
How did you get into sports broadcasting and what would your advice be for anyone wanting to do the same?
I first started commentating at a local horse trials, Winkburn, about 15 years ago. I had sold my horse to go to university and wanted to stay involved in the sport. I fell in love with it straight away and decided it was something I wanted to do more of, although I definitely didn’t believe at that stage that I would be able to pursue it as a career.
For anyone else looking to have a go at commentating my advice would be to approach your local horse trials, start by volunteering in the control box and learning lots of different jobs, and from there just give it a go. Then of course, practice, practice, practice!
What drew you to Equestrian sport and are there any other sports you would enjoy broadcasting for?
I love all equestrian sports but for me my favourite bit about the job must be telling a story, engaging both the hardcore fans and those who might be watching for the first time and making them care is something special.
Obviously, horses have been a love for me for a long time, but I love all sports, there is nothing quite like the adrenaline rush of talking about live sport. I’d love to do more in other sports in the future, particularly rugby as I worked in the rugby industry for 10 years.
If you weren’t doing your current job, what do you think you would be doing instead?
Honestly, I am not entirely sure! If I was doing something entirely different then perhaps a midwife.
What is your favourite event you have worked at and why?
I love the big 5* events like Badminton and Burghley. Burghley is particularly special as that is where I first commentated on the 5* for the BBC,, plus it’s my ‘local’ so it’s always nice being a bit closer to home too.
Have you ever had any funny/embarrassing moments whilst presenting, interviewing, or broadcasting?
Plenty! I would be a huge fan of Clare Balding (aren’t we all!) and I remember the first time we worked together I was so pleased with myself for staying cool and not coming off as a total fangirl but then realised afterwards that my new puppy had slobbered all over my top and honestly, I looked a bit of a messy state!
What is your favourite Mochara product and why?
It has to be the quarter-zip in bubblegum pink. It’s smart, easy to wear and will take you anywhere!
How are Mochara’s values important to you?
For me one of the biggest things that I love about Mochara has to be the fact that it has been driven by a young, female entrepreneur in Tara who stands true to her beliefs in quality and sustainability while still helping us all look more fashionable in everyday life!
Is there anything you would like to see from Mochara in the future?
I think a full zip sweat would be a great addition to a range that can really take you anywhere!
With the Olympics just around the corner, can you give us your thoughts on the team and what are your medal predictions?
We’ve been talking about Paris a lot over on the EquiRatings Eventing Podcast for what feels like a long time so very excited that it’s finally here!
The British team obviously come in as strong favourites and are the defending champions but Germany has a really strong team and are likely the biggest threat for the team gold. The USA last picked up a team medal at the Olympics 20 years ago in Athens and I think they have a strong chance this time.
For the individual competition 2012 and 2016 Olympic champion Michael Jung has to be one of the favourites along with reigning European Champion Ros Canter and Laura Collett who we all know is capable of finishing on a very low score with London 52.
